Gander Area Control Centre procedures

Airspace

The Gander Area Control Center (ACC) is responsible for all airspace in the Gander (Domestic) FIR, excluding that of the Goose Bay RATCON, and St. Pierre Terminal when these units are in operation.

Gander centre is also responsible for a section of CZUL airspace as depicted on the sector file above FL290. Parts of the Gander FIR are controlled by Moncton centre above FL290 when Moncton centre is open. (see below for hand-off procedures)


Squawk codes

  • Internal flights (flights remaining within the Gander FIR): 4301-4377
  • External flights (flights leaving the Gander FIR): 7201-7277
  • Flights coming off the NATs: 0701-0777

SFI Codes

Use the following SFI codes when appropriate.

Gander Arrivals

  N All aircraft landing on runway 03
  E All aircraft landing on runway 13
  S All aircraft landing on runway 21
  G All aircraft landing on runway 31

St. John's Arrivals

  W All aircraft landing on runway 11
  D All aircraft landing on runway 16
  O All aircraft landing on runway 29
  H All aircraft landing on runway 34
  A All aircraft landing on runway 02 or 20

Oceanic traffc

  C Aircraft having received clearance
  L Aircraft having received clearance, requiring level change
  R Aircraft having received clearance, requiring route change
  I Inbound traffic that has been identified. Delete before transfer to Moncton/Montreal.

Gander - GN (Primary)

Description:

The Gander sector is responsible for the airspace over the ilsand of Newfoundland.
GN provides approach services to CYYT, CYQX, CYDF and CYJT as well as ensuring proper separation for aircraft entering the NATs.

Co-ordination:
Montreal (UL) Clear all descents to FL190 and transfer passing 210, clear of conflict.
Moncton (QM) Clear climbing traffic to FL280 or as requested. Transfer traffic passing FL250, clear of conflict.
Oceanic (OC) See LOA
St. Pierre (LFVP) See LOA
Others Co-ordonate individually as required. Automatic hand-offs may be used for en-route traffic.
Consolidation:
Gander is the primary sector of the Gander ACC, and therefore assumes control for all unmanned sectors, as well as the Goose Bay TCU if Foxxe is closed.

Foxxe - FX

Description:
The Gander sector is responsible for the the Gander, Summerside and Charlottetown airports as well as the airspace between these three airports and the Halifax TCA. Airspace for this unit tops at FL280 at all times, even if no other unit is open.
Co-ordination:
Montreal (UL) Clear climbing traffic to FL280 or as requested. Transfer traffic passing FL250, clear of conflict.
Oceanic (OC) See LOA
Others Co-ordonate individually as required. Automatic hand-offs may be used for en-route traffic.
Consolidation:
Foxxe may assume the Goose Bay TCU when closed.
