The Calgary TCU provides terminal control for the Calgary TCA
The Calgary TCA covers Calgary Intl. (CYYC), Calgary Springbank (CYXD), and a few smaller uncontrolled airfields.
The TCA extends to FL250 and is class C transponder airspace below 12'500ft, and B, then A above that.
Click here to see the VFR Terminal chart for a close up of the Calgary control zone.
This document only covers Terminal procedures. For aerodrome procedures of airports within the TCA please visit their designated pages in the menu to the left.
Use the following SFI codes when appropriate.
| X | All aircraft landing on runway 10/28 | |
| - | All aircraft landing on runway 16/34 | |
| S | All aircraft operating on runway 07/25 | |
| B | All aircraft landing in CYBW |
Callsign: |
CYYC_APP "Calgary Arrivals " *
Frequency: |
125.90 | |
Description: |
The arrivals sector is responsible for the Calgary TCA
Co-ordination: |
Edmonton (BA/QF/RM) | Clear all departures to FL250 or flight planned altitude, whichever is lower. Maximum altitude for flights with destination the Edmonton TCA is FL220. Transfer departures to the South/East/West to Banff (BA) To the North-West to Rocky Mountain (RM) and to the North to Red Deer (QF). |
*Note: |
When in a one-man configuration the radio callsign for departing aircraft is "Departures", for arriving aircraft radio callsign is "Arrivals", and for transiting aircraft it's "Terminal"
Callsign: |
CYYC_DEP "Calgary Departures" |
Frequency: |
119.80 |
Description: |
The departure sector may only be opened with prior permission, for special events. There is no clear division between the two sectors - basically you protect each other's airspace. The Departures sector will manage overflights. |
Co-ordination: |
Same as Arrivals. |
Callsign: |
CYYC_V_APP "Calgary Terminal" * |
Frequency: |
119.40 / 128.70 |
Description: |
The VFR advisory sector may only be opened with prior permission, for special events. This sector will talk to all VFR traffic in class C airspace, and ensure separation with IFR departures and arrivals. |
Co-ordination: |
Maintain constant contact with both IFR sectors to determine where IFR flights will be vectored. |
*Note: |
For departing aircraft radio callsign is "Departures", for arriving aircraft radio callsign is "Arrivals", and for transiting aircraft it's "Terminal" |
Arrivals will be routed via the following routes.
| Route | Cleared Altitude | Hand off point |
| V21 TORON - TORON3 / ATHLO5 | 12000 | 35DME YYC |
| V306/R10 ALOMO ALOMO4 / DARKE4 | 12000 | 35DME YYC |
| A22/V301 VUCAN - VUDAN8 / THIRD4 | 12000 | 35DME YYC |
| V342 OPALE - OPALE / HANDA4 | 14000 | OPALE |
| V351 DALLY DALLY3 | 12000 | DALLY |
Edmonton Centre will hand off aircraft to "Calgary Arrivals' on 120.50 at the altitudes and positions listed above or as requested.
All aircraft are to follow a STAR initially, but may be turned off for traffic if required. Pilots refusing to follow a STAR will be handed off a little early and will have to be assigned a heading that will keep them as close to the STAR as possible.
Avoid descending non-straight-in traffic below 8000ft until inside the arrival box, which is in the sector file in the SIDs section.
Do not vector aircraft over the city if possible.
Arrivals to Springbank will either fly the RNAV STAR, or be vectored direct to the destination. Be careful not to vector traffic through the departure path of Calgary Intl when in a westerly configuration.
Be cautious when vectoring departing and arriving traffic to avoid conflicts created by altitude - or lack thereof. There are no pre-determined techniques at any airports.
When departures is split from arrivals avoid vectoring traffic through the STAR routes between 8 000ft and 12 000ft to avoid conflicts.
Springbank departures will, whenever possible, utilise the RNAV SIDs which are published. These SIDs are designed to take traffic away from the active area of Calgary international.
